Sufficiency Creates Liberation

Did you know sufficiency creates liberation? I wonder…

Sufficiency, even more than abundance, creates the direct experience of liberation.  Having a sufficient amount of food, clothing, rest, love, light, air, for each situation means that the “right amount” is provided for the moment.  Scarcity is often paired with abundance – as if abundance is the preferred outcome. But what we often don’t realize is that abundance most often means excess. An excess of what is sufficient for the situation.

The excess requires attention, energy and effort – not liberation but more of your attention.  Let’s look at an example. Sufficient food means that you eat a sufficient amount to nourish you. Food in abundance means that you are required to do something with the extra – eat it and over stuff to discomfort – scrape it into the trash – store it in a container for another day.

Consider other examples and see what you discover. How can sufficiency create liberation for you in your life? I wonder.
