The Value of Time

Believing that every moment of life is valuable, have you ever calculated “wasted time”?  I wonder…

Yesterday, my partner and I spent almost twelve (12) hours eliminating a very nasty bug, virus, infection (some crazy toxicity) from my desktop computer. While scanning my system over the day with several debugging programs, I attended to other endeavors – preparing my son for travel, washing laundry, planting and watering plants, re-entering home after my four days of travel.  The other activities I pursued can directly link to value. These activities have meaning to me and worth me spending my time doing them. For example, I value my relationship with my son and his dedication to learning and developing. He is traveling to a leadership development program and wanted my assistance with preparation. After traveling, I had dirty clothes to clean; I value taking care of my physical property. Nurturing nature in our environment is another activity I value deeply; nature also nourishes me.

Compare the above valuable activities to the obligatory activities of repairing a computer because a wizard mind is capable of writing programs that do harm. I view time spent trying to repair my computer as wasted time.  I could argue that this incident is the equivalent of the perpetrator(s) taking money from my bank account. Sometimes I get cranky when smart people use their creativity just to cause harm.

Consider your life and how you value your precious time. How in tune and in touch are you with your daily activities, their value to life and the time allocated to pursue them? Every so often, we receive a powerful wake up to wonder … yesterday was my most recent wake up.  Are you willing to have a friendly wake up to the value of time?  I wonder.
